Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn is invoking his fifth amendment rights in response to a subpoena from the Senate Intelligence Committee. He’s refusing to turn over documents relating to an investigation about Russian involvement in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Flynn’s decision was first reported by the Associated Press.

“The context in which the Committee has called for General Flynn’s testimonial production of documents makes clear that he has more than a reasonable apprehension that any testimony he provides can be used against him, ” wrote Flynn’s lawyers in a letter to the committee. They also added “he is the target on nearly a daily basis of outrageous allegations.”

The Associated Press also reporting a Democrat on the House oversight committee says documents show Flynn lied to federal investigators about how a trip to Moscow was funded. Flynn allegedly said the trip was being paid for by U.S. companies when it was actually being paid for by RT, the Russian government funded television network.
