Sleep Apnea Treatments Options Beyond CPAP

For sufferers of sleep apnea who cannot use a CPAP machine there is still hope to treat your obstructive sleep apnea using oral appliances, positional therapy, or a combination of treatments.

According to Sleep Review, experts find that prescribing a method of treatment is based on the patients unique needs and often times combination therapy is approached once one individual treatment fails.

Positional therapy is a behavioral strategy that aims to prevent patients from sleeping on their backs, which in most sleep apnea cases can cause major issues. David Barr from the Koala Center for Sleep Disorders says that upwards of 70% of patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea are position dependent. Products like the NoPap Positional Pillow or the iSideSleep mattress are giving patients options in hopes they find the right treatment. A cooperative patient is crucial is solving their individual sleep apnea puzzle.

Physicians are embracing these other methods in hopes being able to comfortably treat those suffering from obstructive sleep apnea.
