U.S. Ready to Consider Syria No-Fly Zones with Russia

A major topic of discussion between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 Summit in Hamburg will be the conflict in Syria. According to a statement from Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the United States is ready to consider establishing no-fly zones in Syria with Russia.

Tillerson says Washington’s fight is with ISIS and defeating ISIS is the U.S.’s goal.

Tillerson says Russia, as a supporter of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad joined the conflict early on and “has a responsibility to ensure that the needs of the Syrian people are met and that no faction in Syria illegitimately re-takes or occupies areas liberated from ISIS' or other terrorist groups' control. Russia also has an obligation to prevent any further use of chemical weapons of any kind by the Assad regime.”
