US F-18 Shoots Down Syrian Jet, Russia Warns US

Russia says it will target any U.S. plane or drone in the Syrian airspace west of the Euphrates after a U.S. F-18 shot down a Syrian fighter jet. The Russian Defense Ministry says it would no longer follow an agreement between the U.S. meant to avoid incidents between the two countries in Syria.

Russia has backed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad since 2015.

The incident in question happened Sunday, when a Syrian jet dropped bombs near members of the Syrian Democratic Forces, a group that is helping the U.S. in its fight against ISIS.
