Trump speaks out after actor Meryl Streep criticizes him during an acceptance speech.
During her acceptance speech for a Golden Globes lifetime achievement award, Streep criticized president-elect Donald Trump. She never mentioned him by name. She spoke specifically about an incident where Trump mocked a disabled New York Times reporter during the campaign.
She said there was one performance this year that stunned her and sank its hooks in her heart, not because it was good, but because it was effective.
“It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life, ” Streep said.
Trump attacked Streep in a series of tweets. He called Streep "one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood" and a "Hillary flunky who lost big." He also said he never mocked the reporter, but showed him 'groveling.'
