Elon Musk Plans to Start Building L.A. Traffic-Reducing Tunnel

Space X CEO Elon Musk now wants to go underground, but he may not have permission from the city he wants to start digging up.

Musk tweeted he plans to start digging a tunnel soon. Since December Musk has talked about building an underground tunnel in Los Angeles to alleviate traffic problems. He tweeted "Traffic is driving me nuts." He said he was going to just start digging what he called "a tunnel boring machine." Musk said it would start near SpaceX in Hawthorne, California -- which is 5 minutes from LAX.

The Guardian reports they contacted state and city leaders -- none of them said the project has been approved.  The Hawthorne city manager told The Guardian they have had discussions about the project for months, but no permit has been issued yet.
