CNN is reporting that Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the outgoing DNC Chairwoman, will not be opening the Democratic convention starting tonight and will not gavel it in. According to Democrats close to her, she will not be speaking at the convention at all. The DNC’s Secretary who is also the mayor of Baltimore will be taking over the gaveling.
Washerman Schultz appeared before Florida Democratic delegates today and was greeted by the jeers and boos of Bernie Sanders supporters who are seemingly finally justified in their anger towards the treatment of Sanders by the DNC and Wasserman Schultz after leaked emails proved the party’s preference of Hillary Clinton throughout the primaries.
Bernie Sanders addressed supporters today as well, receiving jeers for continuing to stick with his endorsement of Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine saying that they must be elected in order to defeat Donald Trump.
DNC Vice Chair Donna Brazile will serve as interim chair through the election.
The convention begins tonight in Philadelphia with speeches by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and first lady Michelle Obama.
