Donald Trump TIME's Person of The Year

President-elect Donald Trump is TIME's person of the year. However, the magazine referred to him as, "President of the Divided States of America."

Trump told The NBC Today Show's Matt Lauer it was a tremendous honor. As for the divided part --- Trump said he didn't divide the states -- but they are divided now. He said, "we're going to put it back together."

Last year German Chancellor Angela Merkel won.  Trump was a runner up.

Every year, TIME editors choose the person or idea who made the biggest influence in news over the year.
