Donald Trump Selects Ben Carson for HUD Secretary

President-elect Donald Trump has chosen his former rival Ben Carson to be Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The USA Today reports Trump said Carson has a brilliant mind and is passionate about meeting the challenges of the country's cities.

Carson, a Republican retired neurosurgeon, said at one time he didn't want to be a part of Trump's cabinet.

Politico reports Carson is the first African-American to be selected for a position on Trump's cabinet. According to Politico, Carson has no housing experience. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said he was "disturbingly unqualified" and he's "dangerously unfit" for the job.

HUD's mission is to create quality affordable housing for all Americans and provides housing assistance for low-income families.
