Syrian Military Has Retaken Control Of Aleppo

The Syrian military says they've recaptured Aleppo. This marks the end of four years of rebel rule in eastern Aleppo and the first time the city is under full government control since 2012.

According to USA Today Turkey and the West supported rebel groups, while Russia and Iran backed the Syrian government.

Earlier this week civilians and rebel fighters were evacuated from the city, sometimes under heavy snowfall. The evacuation was part of an agreement brokered between Russia and Turkey.

The Washington Post reports the Syrian military announced on state media that "security and stability" has returned to Aleppo and the terrorists have left the city.
