A tour bus crash in California kills 13 people and injures 31 others.
It happened early Sunday morning, just around 5 a.m. local time. A casino tour bus carrying mostly sleeping passengers slammed into a semi-truck on westbound Interstate 10 near Palm Springs. The Washington Post reports officials say the semi-truck was traveling at a much slower speed than the bus at 5 miles per hour. During a Sunday news conference, the California Highway Patrol Chief said the speed of the bus was so significant that when it hit the back of the big-rig the trailer entered about 15 feet into the bus.
CNN says the USA Holiday bus was returning to Los Angeles from the Red Earth Casino near the Salton Sea.
The CHP and NTSB are investigating. No word yet on if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
