Scottsdale Committee Working to Create Memorial to Fallen Veterans

The month of May has many things to recommend it, including May Day, Cinco de Mayo, and the unofficial beginning of summer. But LBN’s Bob Donley has his own favorite: Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is an opportunity for all of us to remember the men and women who gave their lives in the defense of their country. In Scottsdale, Arizona, an effort is underway to commemorate those fallen veterans. Citizens are working with city leaders to construct a memorial on the north end of city hall. The Scottsdale Memorial for the Fallen would remember Scottsdale residents who died in the line of duty.

The plan is for a seven-sided stone memorial that could include the names of a hundred veterans who died on active duty. Scottsdale resident and retired Marine Corps Major Jim Geiser is leading the effort to build the memorial. He says the memorial is long overdue.

The problem right now is not desire, but money. The estimated cost of the memorial is $80,000. Donley suggests that interested citizens should contact city hall and make a donation. If things go as planned, the project will be a reality on Memorial Day 2016.
