Jared Fogle Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

LBN’s Emily Collins reports that Jared Fogle has been sentenced to 15-and-a-half years in prison by a federal district court judge. As LBN previously reported, Fogle, a former Subway spokesman, had previously entered a guilty plea to charges of illicit sexual conduct with a minor and distribution and receipt of child pornography. Judge Tanya Walton Pratt sentenced Fogle to a lifetime of supervision. He will also be required to avoid pornography and to get psychiatric treatment for his sexual disorder. Also, Fogle will have to register as sex offender in any state where he chooses to live.

Judge Pratt told Fogle that he had been fortunate to get the lucrative deal he had with Subway based on his losing more than 200 pounds in college, partly by eating Subway sandwiches. Before his sentence was pronounced, Fogle made a statement in court apologizing for his actions.

As part of a plea deal, prosecutors last week requested that Fogle spend 12-and-a-half years in prison. Fogle’s lawyers recommended a five year sentence. Today's sentence was expected to fall within the five- to fifty-year range, and under federal law, Fogle could have faced the maximum sentence behind bars. If additional evidence emerges, new charges could be brought against Fogle.
